The Datasets

The Vermont Center for Geographic Information (VCGI) and HacktVT have partnered to curate a list of open datasets from the State of Vermont.

VCGI is the State of Vermont’s official home for geospatial data and information.

Requirements

You must use at least ONE of the datasets below. You may also choose to use additional data sets (there are many more in the VCGI Open Data Portal), APIs, plugins or scripts of your own.

Boundaries (Town/County)

Municipal and county boundaries in Vermont.

Census Blocks

Hexagons (with Jobs & Population data)

A grid of hexagons, useful for normalizing geography. Three variations are available: 1) Base layer; 2) Hexbins with employment data from LEHD Origin-Destination Employment Statistics Data and 3) Population counts from the Census.

Leaf-off color imagery for all of Vermont.

Lidar Services

Lidar (light detection and ranging) technology provides us with extremely high resolution digital elevation model (DEM). Using these services is not for the faint of heart! Derivatives of the DEM include:

Hillshade: a detailed graphical representation of the earth’s surface with all buildings and trees removed
Aspect: direction that a slope faces
Slope: percentage slope

Site locations including all buildings, residences, hydrants, public phones and other site attributes from E911 Addresses and Locations.

Soil Data

This data set is a digital soil survey and generally is the most detailed level of soil geographic data developed by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. For further information also review NRCS TOP20 soils attributes and documentation
